DJ BAT:
”It all started when I moved to Germany. That’s when I began digging deeper into Rap music. It was Break Dance and Graffiti that really introduced me to Hip Hop. Ultimately, the break-through moment for me was Craig Mack. His sound was like a wake-up call to me, it inspired my Hip Hop instinct. By that time I started buying records and also began to listen to some German DJ’s (Tomekk, Van Tell, Desue…). My record collection was constantly growing and one day a friend of mine asked me to spin at this birthday party. 1995 – That’s when I began spinning. I did well and so I got my first club gigs as a guest DJ. I thought about going professional, but I realized that I am better off if I firstly focus on my degree. What I wanted to achieve is having a back-up opportunity in my life, something I could do in case the DJ thing did not work out for me. That’s when I took a break and sorted out my professional qualification. At the same time, I was already working at one of Berlin’s best record stores (Soultrade). That was taking up additional time, which is why the break was even more necessary. It was in 2002 when I got back on the DJ track. During the time-out period I never stopped buying records. That’s how I made sure that I am never out-of-tune. I did a few mixtapes back then in order to get rotation. As a result, people started asking me if want to spin at various clubs. That’s how I got back into the club scene. Meanwhile, I am playing on a regular basis at clubs in Berlin and outside of Berlin. Since 2004 I am one of the resident DJ’s in Berlin’s 2BE Club, and since 2005 I am also a resident in the Art Speicher (Potsdam). The jam there is called Batdelicious. I have collaborated with overseas artists like Grandmaster Flash, Beatnuts, Luniz, Chris Brown, Krs One…….. and international DJ..s like DJ Kool, DJ Iroc, DJ Whoo Kid…… and I was spinning at the official G-Unit After Show party in Berlin. DJing has meanwhile become my profession, my occupation. That’s how I make money and I am glad having reached this level. Now it is all about continuing to work hard in order to constantly get better at what I do.
